I grew up in a family where poverty wasn’t just a condition, it was a curse. From my grandfather to my father, and now to us, the third generation, it was like we were chained to a life of struggle. No matter how hard anyone worked, we never had enough. School fees were a battle, we skipped meals often, and whenever we tried starting a business or investment, it collapsed like a house of cards.

As a young man, I used to feel ashamed when people talked about inheritance or family wealth. What did we have to inherit? A leaking roof, dry gardens, and endless debt?
